How often does the battery in my MpD need to be replaced?
The battery in the MpD has enough stored energy to power the unit for over 4 years on standby; and if you tested a magnet once every 15 minutes for 8 hours a day, the MpD will last for 2 years or over 23,000 uses.

Can the MpD tell the strength of the magnet?
The MpD was designed to determine if a magnetic field meets the minimum published requirements for magnetic therapy. The MpD will respond to a field strength of 30 gauss at the surface of its case bottom and give an accurate indication of the magnetic polarity. It is possible to determine the relative strength of magnets by turning the MpD on and slowly move it closer to a magnet until the indicator light flashes. Note the distance between the magnet and the bottom of the MpD case, the strength of a magnet field will change with both the distance from the magnet and the area of the magnet surface.

Will the MpD interfere with other electronic devices?
No. The MpD does not emit any significant radiation or magentic fields and should interfere with other devices.

Can the MpD damage my magnetic therapy jewelry?
No. The MpD only measures the strength and polarity of the magnetic field; it does not pull power from the magnet tested and will not reduce the magnet’s power.

Can a strong magnetic field damage the MpD?
No. Though the MpD is very sensitive, it is designed to not be affected by very strong magnetic fields.

The lights on my MpD will not flash when I place it near my magnetic jewelry. Is it broken?
The most likely cause is the field strength from the magnets in your jewelry. Try placing the MpD near a known good magnet to verify that the device is responding to magnetic fields.

Is the MpD waterproof?
No. The case is closed tightly to protect from the elements; however, it is not water tight.

Why are there two buttons on the MpD if it only needs one?
During the design of the MpD several subjects were observed using the device. About 50% chose to hold the unit in their hand with the thumb over the button; the other half held it between the thumb and middle finger while pressing the button with their index finger. It was decided to have two button locations (one slightly forward of the device center and one toward the back) to accommodate either method of use.

Can you turn the MpD off to save battery power?
The MpD is designed to always be under standby power to assure that it is ready for use when you need it. The amount of power used in standby is so small that the drain on the battery is insignificant.

Why does the MpD flash both lights every time the button is pushed?
Every time the button is pushed, the MpD is awakened from standby mode and performs a self check of the internal circuitry including the pole indicator lights. This process assures accurate and consistent operation each time it is used.

Can the MpD tell if my magnetic jewelry will be therapeutic?
No. The MpD is not a medical device and the results taken from the MpD cannot be used for any medical purpose including the ability of magnetic devices to produce therapeutic results. The MpD is used to verify that the minimum magnetic field and polarity of magnetic therapy devices will at least meet the recommendations cited in publications.

How sensitive is the MpD?
The MpD is designed to accurately detect and determine the polarity of magnetic fields as low as 30 Gauss. This is the magnetic field strength recommended in literature that must be present for any therapeutic effect to be realized.
